WEAR YOUR T-SHIRT TONIGHT…DOWNTOWN TUCSONAN NEEDS AN ACTION SHOT FOR THE APRIL COVER OF THEIR MAGAZINE!! LET’S GIVE THEM ACTION!!!
MMM First Anniversary “Rock and Stroll” on April 12…Check the website regularly, as new things are happening almost daily as we get closer to Rock and Stroll. PLEASE NOTE…START TIME IS EARLIER!! You won’t want to miss this grand celebration…four miles of live music, food, drink, and surprises ($$$) for everyone who registers/ checks in. Mark your calendars NOW!! You may want to get off work early, as festivities begin at 4:00. MMM will make downtown a happening place…sponsored by TMC Healthcare.
It will take lots of MMM volunteer effort to make this a huge success. Wouldn’t you like to be part of it? Please let us know…send an email to mmmvolunteer@gmail.com.
We had a huge pile of trash bags at the end of the evening on Monday…Thanks to those who attended the Tucson Clean and Beautiful ceremony…see photos below. And thanks to the MMM Athletes who took trash bags on Monday and helped us keep downtown beautiful…especially Julie and Doug Kluge. The whole thing was Julie’s idea…and what a good one!! Everyone who returned to Maynards with a bag of trash was entered into a special drawing for $25 gift certificates for Cup Café and for Maynards.
If you gaze longingly at the brightly costumed cyclists as you pass them in traffic,,,and wish you could give cycling a try, in a safe and non-threatening environment, then put April 4 on your calendar now. The Doo Dah Road Club…doodahroadclub.org, invites you to give cycling a chance to win your heart. Join Rick and others at Maynards at 8:45 AM. Beg, borrow (don’t steal) a bike and be there. Helmets are mandatory! The ride will be about 13 miles…then hang around for coffee and other yummy stuff. There you go…a new sport and new friends. It doesn’t get better than that.
MMM Training Tips on March 29…in partnership with U of A Dept. of Humanities …7:15 to 7:45…after drawing.
Running in Antiquity: 20-minute Informal Lecture on Ancient Athletics to Modern Tucsonans
Prof. Mike Lippman, UA Department of Classics, offers dynamic commentary on sports in antiquity, with special focus on running.
Lippman will speak about the importance of athletics to the larger culture, and touch on the Olympic Games. Lippman is currently teaching a course on ancient athletics at the UA, and has been involved in several modern revivals of ancient Olympic games at various universities. Lippman’s primary field of study is Greek Drama, particularly comedy; but he can speak to a wide variety of timeless and timely issues with wit and insight. The 20” talk starts around 7:15pm, inside the Market. Lippman’s presentation is part of Humanities Week 2010, March 24-31, sponsored by the UA College of Humanities. Find a complete listing of free events at www.coh.arizona.edu. Info also at 626-4319.

Route changed slightly in January to accommodate walkers who would like a shorter route and runners who want to run 4 miles…The first part of the route has not changed. Walkers may opt to walk 2 miles by turning left off of Broadway onto 5th St. and returning to Maynard’s. Others will continue east. After we cross Rattlesnake Bridge follow the sidewalk all the way to 4th Avenue. At this point walkers may opt to walk 3 miles by turning back under the underpass and return to Maynard’s. Others will continue north on the east side of 4th Ave. to University, cross over to the west side of 4th Ave. and return to Maynards. Of course you can turn back at any point along 4th Ave. The full 4-mile route will take us past all participating restaurants and bars, including Che’s, Shanty, The Hut, Bison Witches, Brooklyn Pizza Company, Bumsteds, Delectables and O’Malley’s. Enjoy!!
You will also find news of importance about Meet Me at Maynard’s. There may come a day that we change our location for one Monday…like a field trip! Wouldn’t you want to know that before you arrive? J
The Running Shop and Worldly Soles, our exclusive shoe sponsors have provided gift certificates for our 2010 drawings. Look for one of these gift certificates every week from now on…in addition to restaurant gift certificates. They have offered special/ additional gift certificates just for those who pick up trash on the 3rd Monday of each month. Be there!!!
Our MMM band The Determined Luddites is offering two CDs for sale at the check-in table. “…Better Luck Yesterday” and “String Theory”. They are only $15…take a look.
