If walking or running isn’t your top exercise choice, there’s a variety of other options to work up a sweat downtown at multiple locations just around the corner from MMM check-in!

There’s Pilates at Downtown Y, Zumba at Armory Park Center, yoga at Yoga Oasis, and kettle bells and spinning at O2 Modern Fitness, just to name a few! Check in at HoCo just like always, and be back in time for the drawing at 7:00 p.m.!

Following national efforts to prioritize pedestrian safety, the Pima Association of Governments is looking for guidance on regional walking priorities.  We certainly are an avid bunch of walkers and runners, so let’s share our thoughts, ideas and comments to make Tucson an even better place to GET OUT.

On April 13, 2009 when Doug and wife Julie showed up at the first MMM, they had no idea they had stumbled upon a weekly labor of love. Since that day Doug has volunteered at nearly every MMM. You can’t arrive too early to see his smiling face, as he is there before any of us, greeting the first arrivals. He has a smile and a kind (or funny) word for everyone!

One of Tucson’s most popular & scenic races is set for Saturday, April 13, 5:45 p.m. The paved out and back 7.4 mile course goes uphill into the canyon and downhill on the way back. If you time it right, you can watch the sunset as you meander through the canyon toward the finish line. This race has reached capacity each of the last three years, so be sure to sign up early! Registration is open now, so don’t wait!
The 15th anniversary of the Komen Southern Arizona Race for the Cure will take place on Sunday, March 17. The race moves to the University of Arizona campus for the first time ever. Olympic silver medalist Brigetta Barrett – whose mother fought breast cancer – will be Honorary Race Chair. For more information and to register for the event CLICK HERE

   NIGHT RACING DOWNTOWN THIS SATURDAY NIGHT!!!!
Watch over 150 professional cyclists zip through downtown Tucson this Saturday, March 9, 2013! The race starts in the early evening and runs through 9:15 p.m., and coincides with 2nd Saturdays just a block away.
One of Tucson’s most popular & scenic races is set for Saturday, April 13, 5:45 p.m. The paved out and back 7.4 mile course goes uphill into the canyon and downhill on the way back. If you time it right, you can watch the sunset as you meander through the canyon toward the finish line. This race has reached capacity each of the last three years, so be sure to sign up early! Registration is open now, so don’t wait!
The 15th anniversary of the Komen Southern Arizona Race for the Cure will take place on Sunday, March 17. The race moves to the University of Arizona campus for the first time ever. Olympic silver medalist Brigetta Barrett – whose mother fought breast cancer – will be Honorary Race Chair. For more information and to register for the event CLICK HERE
Registration for Dave’s Run on March 17 kicks off this Saturday, February 16, at 8am with a free social run and injury prevention seminar at ProActive Physical Therapy (3945 E. Cyclovia Tucson is back and bigger than ever! After rain cancelled last year’s festivities, Cyclovia now features two events set for April 7 & April 28, both from 10am-3pm. On April 7, Cyclovia runs through downtown & South Tucson. Then, three weeks later, a new midtown route is featured!

It was December of 2008 when Dave and Jannie were on their way to dinner in downtown Colorado Springs and saw hundreds of people walking and running on this cold dark night…they were Jack Quinn’s Runners (click here)…an idea was born. 

(Fast forward four years…)
***Meet Me At Maynards celebrated its 200th consecutive weekly walk/run on Monday night!*** 

For 200 Monday’s in a row since April 13, 2009
(rain, shine, holidays) nearly 14,000
have experienced MMM, and many have
made MMM part of their weekly routine! Total
attendance in this four years is 80,000 people!

This Monday we had an electric crowd, one of our biggest in recent memory. The weather has been beautiful, and the construction throughout our reinvigorated downtown is
almost done! Thank you for “getting out” and thank you for
supporting downtown Tucson!

Help support a downtown treasure! The non-profit Rialto Theatre Foundation is throwing its first ever fundraising gala on February 9. The Carnival-themed event is headlined by Grupo Fantasma, and features a VIP Dinner with 2 free drink tickets & balcony access, a silent auction, and after party with Brownout!

Before the women’s race at 8am, there’s a “Men’s Mile” at 7:45. Post-race Beauty Expo with giveaways and discounts, yoga experts, pilates instructors, clothing boutiques, & more.

“Ride on, Tucson!”

Who says “getting out” is only running and walking. If you want to help the day of the event, we can sure use you. Let us know by replying to this newsletter. Check it out and note that our own Determined Luddites will
be playing at the event.
  

Come to a Bicycle Party in downtown Tucson hosted by Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey, pro cyclist Tom Danielson, and Bicycling Magazine editor-in-chief Peter Flax. “Ride on, Tucson!” will take place on Sunday, January 20, 1-4 p.m., in the Armory Park neighborhood.  Dempsey and Danielson hatched the idea to celebrate the great bicycling community in Tucson and Pima County. The route will be closed to vehicle traffic so people of all ages and abilities can ride around one of Tucson’s oldest neighborhoods.  Armory Park will host music, including Jovert, Tucson High Magnet School’s steel drum band, and the Determined Luddites. Other festivities will take place throughout the afternoon.  Ride the two-mile route as many times as you want, meet some new bicycling friends, and pick up event posters signed by Dempsey and Danielson.  If your bike isn’t ready to ride, mechanics will be on hand to fix flat tires and do other minor repairs.  Helmets are required. Bikes are waterproof, so “Ride on Tucson” will happen rain or shine!  You could be featured in upcoming Bicycling Magazine videos and articles.

It was a picture-perfect day on Saturday, as over 230 people attended MMM/MMLE’s BEYOND festivities at Armory Park. After the walk/run, a large contingent headed down to Janos’ Downtown Kitchen + Cocktails for Happy Hour. A great time was had by all!
